Auburn Football: Tigers vs Samford Game Day Prediction
The Auburn football team hosts in-state FCS opponent Samford at Jordan-Hare Stadium in an attempt to snap a two-game losing streak. It’s Senior Day and 22 Tigers will be honored on the field prior to the game in their last home contest. It’s also a homecoming of sorts for Bulldogs head coach Pat Sullivan, who was an Auburn football legend and won the school’s first Heisman Trophy in 1971.

On the field, this game shouldn’t be close. The Tigers are 7-3 and ranked 14th in the country by the College Football Playoff committee after spending the first 12 weeks of the season in the top ten and the majority of the year ranked in the top five by the committee, the Associated Press and the coaches poll. However, a 41-38 loss to Texas A&M two weeks ago – the first at home for Gus Malzahn as the head coach of the Tigers – and a 34-7 blowout last Saturday in Athens.
Auburn should start a new streak today. The Tigers are far more talented than the Bulldogs, despite Samford’s 7-3 record and a handful of impressive victories. Quarterback Nick Marshall, one of the seniors playing his last game on the Plains, can become the school’s all-time leading rusher among quarterbacks with 78 yards on the ground. Senior Cameron Artis-Payne has an opportunity to increase his lead as the SEC’s leading rusher, and Corey Grant will have one last opportunity to make big plays at home. Tight end C.J. Uzomah and receiver Quan Bray should be on the receiving end of a few passes in their last on-field appearance at Jordan-Hare. While Reese Dismukes, Chad Slade and Brandon Fulse will be blocking for them all.

For those seniors, putting up a lot of points today would be a nice sendoff, but it would also help build some momentum heading into the Iron Bowl next week in Tuscaloosa as well as provide an opportunity for younger players to play once the win is in hand.
On defense, Auburn needs a good performance in the worst way because the Tigers are on a historically bad stretch of allowing 31 points or more in five straight games. The last time this group walked off the field at Jordan-Hare, they had allowed 34 points (plus a special teams touchdown which gave the Aggies 41). Seniors Gabe Wright, Ben Bradley, LaDarius Owens, Robenson Therezie, Jonathan Mincy, Jermaine Whitehead, Trovon Reed and Brandon King would prefer a sweeter memory in their final home game.
The Bulldogs can score points. They average 34.8 points per game and have scored 45, 52, 55, and 63 in games this season. But, expect the Auburn defense to come out with a chip on their shoulder and to shut down the Bulldogs. This game is all about dominating an opponent, building confidence and momentum heading into next week’s clash against Alabama.
Samford has never beaten Auburn, and the Tigers hold a 26-0-1 edge in the series. Today should be no different.
Auburn 45, Samford 7
