The Tigers scored 105 points in their last game against UL-Lafayette and put up 83 in the season opener against Milwaukee for an average of 94 per game on campus. However, Bruce Pearl’s squad lost their first road test 90-59 to Colorado, meaning they’ve managed a combined 94 in the two losses.
Auburn started the game 7-for-11 from the floor and led 16-12, but made only eight of their next 37 shots.
Simply, the Tigers hit a wall 13 minutes into the game, didn’t score the rest of the first half, and shot just 35% from the field (9-for-29) and 9% from beyond the arc (1-for-11) across the game’s first 20 minutes. Auburn also suffered through 12 fouls and 12 turnovers before halftime and trailed 28-21 at the break.
The early foul trouble doomed Pearl’s rotation, and with just eight healthy scholarship players available, he struggled to find a productive group to put on the floor. And with several key starters having off nights – K.T. Harrell and K.C. Ross-Miller, most notably, the Tigers just couldn’t compete against the more experienced Golden Hurricane.
When the dust settled, the Tigers were 15-for-48 (31%) from the floor including a miserable 2-for-22 (9%) from beyond the three-point line and were 3-for-6 at the free throw line. Auburn committed 23 turnovers.
Despite scoring 26 points in the paint, Auburn struggled all game to penetrate against the Tulsa zone and most of those points were scored on second chance baskets by Cinmeon Bowers.

On the bright side, Bowers became the first Auburn basketball player since Jeff Moore in 1987-88 to record four straight double-doubles. He finished with 17 points and 15 boards and the Tigers actually out rebounded Tulsa 30-29.
Yet Harrell, who scored 20-plus points in each of the first three games, had only two points against the Golden Hurricane and hit only one of seven shots he took. It was the senior’s worst game since having two points on 0-for-4 shooting for Virginia against Drexel in 2011. Ross-Miller was held scoreless.
The Tigers also missed Antoine Mason, who sat out his third straight game with an ankle injury.
Tulsa, on the other hand, hit six of ten three-pointers in the first half and shot 47% before heading to the locker room. They finished 19-for-40 (48%) from the floor and 9-for-17 (55%) from beyond the arc.
Auburn will be back in action against Oregon State at 8PM Central in the consolation game of the event. The contest will be shown on ESPN3.com.
