With the home crowd behind them, Auburn got off to a good start. An early 13-2 run gave Auburn a 14-8 lead, and the Tigers used a hot shooting streak to push the lead to 25-19.
K.C. Ross-Miller gave Auburn a big boost early and tied his season high of 13 points in the first half. He also had four assists at that point. Ross-Miller cooled off considerably and fouled out with 2:37 left in the second half with the same 13 points, but he put together an impressive stat line that also included five assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block.
As they have been known to do this season, Auburn went cold late in the first half. The Tigers went scoreless over the final 2:48 before halftime and Missouri cut the lead to 41-40 heading into the locker room. At the half, Mizzou held a 20 to 11 rebounds edge, including a 9 to 2 edge on the offensive boards. Overall, Missouri out rebounded Auburn 40 to 31.
Things got worse before they got better in the second half.
Missouri began the second half with a quick 9-0 run, 18-3 overall between the two halves. Auburn missed ten shots in a row, including the first eight shots they took in the second half.
However, Auburn kept things close and Tahj Shamsid-Deen provided a much needed second half spark. Shamsid-Deen drove to the basket often in the second half and made three acrobatic layups to bring the Tigers back to a 67-67 tie.
