Looking ahead to the 2015 Auburn football season, we’ve gone through the depth chart projections for every defensive position, as well as running back and wide receiver on offense. Now it’s time to look at the players that will compete to become Auburn’s new starting quarterback.
For the past two seasons, head coach Gus Malzahn has relied on dual threat quarterback Nick Marshall to lead his offense.

The perfect blend of a strong-armed, fleet-footed quarterback with the ability to make quick decisions on option plays, Marshall led the Tigers to a 20-7 overall record, the 2013 SEC Championship and a spot in the BCS National Championship Game following the 2013 season.
Simply put, he’s one of the best quarterbacks to ever wear orange and blue.
In two years on the Plains following a short stint as a defensive back at Georgia and a year in junior college, Marshall threw for 4,508 yards and 34 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound signal caller also ran for 1,866 yards, which put him second on the school’s all-time rushing list among quarterbacks.
Of course, Marshall is now out of eligibility and has a professional career to tend to. But he feels the Tigers and Malzahn will be in good hands with Jeremy Johnson in 2015.
“This team right here is going to be a great team,” Marshall said following his final collegiate performance in the Outback Bowl. “Jeremy Johnson, he’s a great fit for this offense, and I’m right behind him. It’s Team Johnson now.”
Johnson is the favorite to replace Marshall, but he’s not the only talented option Malzahn has at his disposal when looking to replace one of the best Auburn football players of all time.
