Auburn football: The best player from each team on the Tigers’ 2020 schedule
The Minutemen only won one game last season so unfortunately, there’s not a talent to choose from to begin with. It also doesn’t help that running back Bilal Ally — who I would’ve chosen for this — decided to transfer from the program.
So, with that being said, I’m going with senior linebacker Cole McCubrey who is likely the team’s top defensive player. The veteran linebacker led the Minuteman in tackles (84) by a wide margin and also added 4.5 TFLs, two passes defended and one sack.
Yes, the UMass defense did give up an incredible 52.7 (!!!) points per game last year which was the worst mark in the entire FBS but at least McCubrey was productive. As I said, the bar is pretty low here and Auburn should have no problem dealing with this independent opponent.
Honorable mentions: Chinedu Ogbonna and George Georgopoulos
