For the second time in less than a month, one former Auburn star is searching for a new team at the next level.

The NFL is a tough business. There’s no doubt about that. Very few college football players actually make it to the next level and for the hundreds of players on the bubble of being a pro, making a roster is an absolute struggle.

Unfortunately, one former Auburn football star learned that the hard way this weekend. On Thursday, the Miami Dolphins announced a series of roster moves via their Twitter — one of which was waiving former Tiger Javaris Davis.

According to their announcement, Davis was waived from the team with a non-football injury, which is the same reason that Davis was released by the Kansas City Chiefs back in July. The non-football injury designation means that Davis had the injury before joining both the Chiefs and Dolphins but the specifics of the injury are undisclosed.

Despite an excellent career at Auburn and an excellent showing at the 2019 Reese’s Senior Bowl, Davis’ size (5’8″, 183 pounds) led to the former Auburn cornerback going undrafted during the 2020 NFL Draft.

Davis was a three-year starter for Auburn at CB and was an All-SEC freshman in 2017. As a senior in 2019, Davis recorded a career-high 43 tackles for the Tigers to go along with six passes defended and two interceptions.

Davis was also one of the fastest players in college football last season and ended up running a 4.39 in the forty-yard dash which was the third-best time among all defensive backs.

As for the Dolphins, the team still has two former Auburn players on the roster.  Fellow cornerback Noah Igbinoghene was selected by the team in the first round in the recent draft while second-year fullback Chandler Cox was the team’s seventh-round selection in 2019. Miami also cut former Auburn receiver Ricardo Louis at the beginning of training camp.

Along with waiving Davis, the Dolphins also reactivated two players off of the reserve/COVID-19 list while simultaneously placing six players on that same list.

Davis is now once again looking for a job in the NFL and will hopefully rejoin Will Hastings, Spencer Nigh, Jeremiah Dinson, Nick Coe, Arryn SipossMike Horton and Marquel Harrell as the seven other Tigers trying to make NFL rosters as 2020 undrafted free agents.
