The Bryan Harsin effect is already being felt for Auburn football, who was given the 16th best title odds to be the 2022 National Champion.

It takes a lot to win a national championship. I’m not reinventing the wheel in pointing that out, but instead wondering whether Auburn football has what it takes to win one in 2022.

According to WynnBet, the Tigers’ have the 16th best odds to win the championship, so maybe it isn’t that crazy of a thought:

Obviously, the teams in the 2021 College Football Playoff represent the top picks, although Notre Dame is conspicuous by their absence. The Fighting Irish will not be in the ACC next season after forgoing independent status in 2020.

In the SEC, Alabama (obviously), Georgia, Florida, and Texas A&M all boast better odds than Auburn, but those teams earned that status with Top 10 finishes in the standings. Georgia and Texas A&M both picked up victories in their bowl games, while Florida lost big to Oklahoma (who has the fifth-best odds) and Alabama obviously awaits the conclusion to their season with a date with the Ohio State Buckeyes in the title game.

LSU’s inclusion on the list makes sense only because they are still the reigning champions. Their 2020 season was a massive step back, so much so that their desperation in their coaching staff search has led them to disgraced former defensive coordinator Kevin Steele.

Auburn football falls right below the University of Wisconsin and right above the University of Southern California. The three of those schools represent a trio of historically dominant programs that underperformed during an unprecedented 2020 season.

Unlike the other two, Auburn has a reason to be optimistic, with a head coach in Bryan Harsin who is ready to uproot the War Eagle culture and elevate the team’s national profile.

In Harsin, we trust, and hopefully, Wynnbet has the foresight to foresee a comeback year on the Plains.
