National Signing Day keeps getting better for Auburn football as the Tigers added another two 3-star commits to the class of 2021.
Take a look at these two defensive backs that will be playing Auburn football on the Plains this fall:
Cayden Bridges–12:13pm
This 3-star safety out of Magee, MS is a multi-positional player and a multi-sport athlete out of high school, where he also played outfielder for the baseball team. Bridges was originally committed to the University of South Alabama, but after a few late offers from SEC schools Auburn was able to secure the signee.
It may be safe to assume that Darren Uscher, director of recruiting, was referring to this young man when he tweeted out this cryptic message:
Bridges recorded impressive stats in his 2020 season, totaling 52 tackles, six tackles for loss, four interceptions, and one sack. Justin Ferguson notes on Twitter that last time Auburn flipped a South Alabama defensive back recruit–Roger McReary–things worked out pretty well for the Tigers.
Per Josh Vitale on Twitter, Bridges’ commitment moves Auburn from 38th to 36th place in overall 2021 class rankings.
Juwon Gaston–1:40pm
The 3-star Montgomery native from just down the road will join the 2021 Auburn football roster on the defense as well. Gaston played well in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game, and chose Auburn over fellow SEC schools South Carolina and Tennessee.
Just like Bridges, Gaston’s great potential shows in his 2020 season stats. 96 tackles, five tackles for loss, and five interceptions on the season is no small feat, and we’re hoping those numbers will easily translate to collegiate level play.
Gaston was recruited by cornerbacks coach Zac Etheridge. He sits at #49 in safety rankings, and is the 24th overall recruit out of the state of Alabama, per 247Sports.
