In keeping with tradition, Auburn football announced their two Iron Men of the Week, an honor that goes to one member of the defense and one of the offense each week. Both players are recognized for their outstanding hard work in the weight room.
Like last week, head coach Bryan Harsin announced the Iron Men via Twitter. Wesley Steiner earned the defensive honor and Keiondre Jones represented the offense.
Both Steiner and Jones were rated four stars out of high school, and both hail from Georgia though they were a year apart in recruiting classes. Jones is a member of the 2019 class while Steiner joined the Tigers in 2020.
Wesley Steiner, a linebacker from Warner Robbins, GA, played nine games in his true freshman season. He had three total tackles on the season against LSU, Ole Miss, and Northwestern. Auburnโs linebacker group has several strong returners including Owen Pappoe and Chandler Wooten as well as Joko Willis and Dylan Brooks who will be arriving on the Plains in the fall.
Offensive lineman Keiondre Jones redshirted his freshman year in 2019 but saw game action in 2020. Jones, from Lagrange, GA, earned his first start against Arkansas after an injury to Brandon Council versus Ole Miss. He should be a contender to be a 2021 starter as a returner with experience, but thereโs no denying that Auburn footballโs offensive line could use work.
The Iron Men of this week are two guys who we can certainly expect to see step up their game in 2021 with experience under their belts and hard work put in during the offseason.
