As Auburn basketball sits out the return of March Madness from the real-life madness of the COVID-19 pandemic, they are not sitting out when it comes to recruiting for their 2021-22 team. Texas Tech transfer Nimari Burnett named an unofficial top five schools today and quickly added Auburn to make six.

The Tigers may be getting hot in the NCAA Transfer Portal after landing College of Charleston transfer Zep Jasper just last week. Jasper spoke very highly of Auburn basketball head coach Bruce Pearl and will have two years of eligibility remaining once he arrives on the Plains.

Coach Pearl and his staff have three commitments so far for the class of 2021 in Jasper, Jabari Smith, and Trey Alexander, but a fourth could be on its way soon enough. Texas Tech freshman Nimari Burnett, a former five-star recruit, entered the transfer portal in January over playing time concerns.

The 6’4″ guard has had multiple offers and a plethora of schools reach out, but he told Ryan McMullen on Twitter that Alabama, Auburn, Illinois, Oregon, USC, and Vanderbilt are recruiting him the hardest.

Burnett released an unofficial top five schools today including Alabama, Oregon, USC, Vanderbilt, and Illinois, but soon after added Auburn into the mix. He has tentatively set a decision date between April 6th and April 9th and would be a major boost to the Tigers’ backcourt.

Burnett averaged 5.3 points per game this season according to ESPN, and he originally chose Texas Tech over Alabama, Oregon, and Michigan.
