Auburn football: Bryan Harsin recognizes Iron Men of the Week
Auburn football head coach Bryan Harsin took to Twitter today to recognize the first two Iron Men of the Week since spring practice began for the Tigers. This time around Harsin praised the hard work of honorees Brendan Coffey and Jaylin Simpson.
In light of the beginning of spring practice, the first open practice in years held at Jordan-Hare Stadium, and a coronavirus-adjusted version of Pro Day on the Plains, the Auburn football program and Coach Harsin took a well-deserved break in recognizing their Iron Men.
As per usual, one member of the offense and one member of the defense is honored for their hard work in the weight room and during spring practice. Brendan Coffey was the offensive recipient and Jaylin Simpson was selected from the defense.
Brendan Coffey, a senior offensive tackle, came to Auburn in 2020 as a junior college transfer.
Formerly a two-year starter for the Butte College football team, Coffey arrived on the Plains as the No. 2 Juco offensive line prospect, according to AuburnTigers.com. Coffey played five games beginning with LSU in the 2020 season and started versus Mississippi State.
According to Auburn Rivals, Brendan Coffey is one of five returning tackles to Auburn football’s offensive line and has been working with Austin Troxell on the second team during spring practice.
The defensive honors went to sophomore cornerback Jaylin Simpson, a native of Brunswick, GA who was a four-star recruit out of high school. Simpson played four games as a true freshman safety and finished up with two tackles in the 2019 season.
He got his first starter opportunity versus Kentucky in 2020 and played in eight total games. He finished up the 2020 season with 14 total tackles, 10 solo tackles, and one tackle for loss.
The Tigers are currently working to prepare for the annual A-Day game, which will be held on April 17.
