Auburn women’s golf is the Southeastern Conference Champion after beating Mississippi State today at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover, AL. It’s the first time the Tigers have been SEC champions in nearly ten years, the last time being when they won in both 2011 and 2012.

On their road to the SEC Title, Auburn women’s golf knocked off Vanderbilt in the quarter-finals and Alabama in the semi-finals. The No. 3 Tigers swept the No. 5 Bulldogs to earn the tenth SEC Title in program history, but it’s the first championship for Coach Melissa Luellen:

"“They’re a very mature group, a very experienced group,” Auburn coach Melissa Luellen said on SEC Network. “They love match play and just eat it up. They know when they’re down, it’s OK. They know when they’re up to just keep pressing. So I couldn’t be more proud of them.”"

On the third and final day of the championship, the Tigers fell short on the first nine holes but on the second nine regained control. Kaleigh Telfer scored the first point for Auburn women’s golf on the 18th hole with an 18-foot birdie after losing the previous two holes to Mississippi State’s Abbey Daniel.

Auburn’s second point came from Megan Schofill with a par on the 18th hole, and the third and final point was earned by Elena Hualde Zúñiga with a 3&2 victory.

Next up on the Tigers’ schedule is the NCAA Regionals on May 10-12 to qualify for the NCAA Championship on May 21-26. The Auburn women’s golf team is asking the Auburn family to join them at Toomer’s Corner this evening at 5:00 p.m. to celebrate their SEC Title by rolling the trees.

War Eagle, and congratulations to Auburn women’s golf for their dominant performance in the SEC finals!
