Auburn football: Could Dematrius Davis connection land Shadrach Banks?
Auburn football could be in the driver’s seat in landing a 4-star recruit at a position of need because of their own 4-star recruit who just made his Jordan-Hare Stadium debut less than 10 days ago.
The former is a recent transfer portal entry from Texas A&M by the name of Shadrach Banks, and the latter is the Tigers’ own third-string quarterback Dematrius Davis.
Banks is a 2021 recruit who just withdrew from the TAMU football program following the conclusion of their Spring camp. He had spent just a few months in College Station before entering the transfer portal earlier this afternoon.
Matt Zenitz of Al.com was the first to report the portal news:
Following Banks’ portal plunge, Davis, a fellow 2021 Texas recruit, commented that it was all apart of God’s plan:
Now, this could just be support from one friend to another after a life-changing decision to leave the Power 5 SEC powerhouse and open his recruitment elsewhere. That Banks is in the portal doesn’t even guarantee that he will be leaving TAMU.
That said, the fact that Auburn football was one of the options for Banks during his initial recruitment certainly opens the door back up for a potential passage to the Plains.
The possible Davis connection makes things infinitely more interesting due to his own possible ascension to the starting QB position in due time.
A-Day proved that Bo Nix is the starter, but it certainly didn’t see Grant Loy grab the reins of the backup quarterbacking spot. Nix has two years left in his collegiate career, though eligibility rules could keep him in Auburn an extra year should he decide to stay.
Davis will contend for snaps as soon as this season if his arm strength and mobility flashed at A-Day weren’t a mirage–and on the off chance it turns out that this is in fact the year for Bo Nix to contend for the Heisman–and his presence could be appealing enough to have Banks realize Auburn football was God’s plan all along.
