If you’re an Auburn fan, you know Aubie and you love him. Auburn fans of all ages flock to Aubie at events for pictures and general shenanigans, as Aubie is always having a good time. But, you don’t have to just take our word for it.
Auburn University’s well-known and well-loved mascot, Aubie the Tiger, took home the UCA National Championship title on Wednesday in Orlando, Florida. It marks Aubie’s tenth championship award, more than any other mascot in the country, and is his first since 2016.
Aubie was the first inductee into the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2006. This year’s runner-up was the Tennessee Volunteers’ Smokey.
Though you may think Auburn does not consistently dominate rival Alabama in anything, you would be incorrect! Big Al, the official mascot of the Alabama Crimson Tide, also competes in the UA Mascot Competition, and a story posted by Alabama’s News Center states that five years prior to 2018, Big Al placed sixth in the competition, and that’s the only stat. Things aren’t looking great for Alabama in the mascot category.
Big Al was not invited to compete at Walt Disney World in Orlando this year, however, and the only other SEC candidate represented was Smokey from Tennessee. Interestingly, Blaze from the University of Alabama at Birmingham competed as well.
Whether or not he wins a mascot national championship, we all know that Aubie is the best mascot of all time. All of the other tiger mascot costumes are a disaster, to be quite honest. Do y’all remember when LSU fans started a GoFundMe to get Clemson a new mascot?
Congrats to Aubie on his tenth national championship, and War Eagle!
