The “Big Game Boomer” Twitter account has been causing a ruckus on the timelines of Auburn football fans and college football fans the country over with its various rankings and college football town “best-of” lists.

Typically, Alabama gets ribbed. Tuscaloosa’s best bar was Hooters, and their best pizza was Chuck-E Cheese. Ipso facto, Auburn Twitter is a fan of the “Big Game Boomer”.

All jokes aside, the account is usually good for spurring debate with its various countdowns. College football is such a limited sport from a scheduling perspective–it’s the shortest season of any major revenue-driving league by far at 10-13 games per year–but the fact that most top programs never get to play in a given season makes the debate potential unlimited.

Given the current situation of the Tigers QB situation, ie. Bo Nix entering a make-or-break junior season with a new head coach at the helm in Bryan Harsin that could theoretically elevate his game, a debate on where the current leader of the Tigers offense stands is a hot one.

Big Game Boomer invited such with debate with a top 50 college QBs entering 2021 list that included Nix at #50:

Nix being the eighth-ranked quarterback in the SEC does sound about right. While Nix has shown flashes, he is far from the top of the food chain in the conference. Even still, that puts him in the top 50 QBs in the entire country.

With 130 starting spots, the former 5-star is still underperforming relative to expectations of the Pinson, Alabama product entering his Auburn football career, though.

2021 is a clean slate for Nix. He finally has a coach known for developing quarterbacks–Harsin sent offers to both Zach Wilson and Trey Lance, the #2 and #3 picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, respectively–and a sophomore running back ready to make Heisman waves in Tank Bigsby.

Perhaps he even lives up to the famous Auburn football Twitter meme.

Either way, it’s clear that the expectations of what he can do are keeping him in the conversation of who the top gunslingers on the collegiate gridiron are.
