One of Auburn football’s most important recruits took a visit to the Plains over the weekend for an official visit and is walking away wowed by the program. 4-star wide receiver Darrius Clemons made the trip all the way from Portland, Oregon to Alabama to kick off his tour of official visits, and as of now, the Tigers are in the lead.

Auburn Rivals reports that the wide receiver spent a lot of time with Smoke Monday, Jaylin Simpson, and WR coach Cornelius Williams. Clemons said of all those currently recruiting him, his relationship with Coach Williams is one of the best.

"“The whole staff, they recruit the hell out of people. They know what to do when it comes to recruiting. They know how to make Auburn look like a very enticing place.”"

Though the wide receiver still has visits lined up to the University of Southern California, Penn State, and Michigan, he left the Plains favoring the Auburn Tigers overall. Clemons points out the Tigers’ lack of depth at the receiver position, primarily due to the three best receivers heading to the NFL after last season, and notes the gap he could fill on the roster:

"“They are in the lead right now, but take that with a grain of salt,” Clemons said. “That’s my first official visit, so of course I’m going to be wowed. I’m sure I’ll feel the same way about the rest of my visits, but I loved my visit to Auburn and couldn’t have asked for a better experience.“I love the culture. They have good quarterbacks and a good defense, but they don’t have a lot of depth at wide receivers. I think that provides someone like me a great opportunity.”"

Clemons is ranked as the 20th best wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2022 and is the No. 1 recruit out of the state of Oregon. There is currently no date range set for the high school athlete’s official announcement, but he will undoubtedly take all of his official visits before making any decision.
