The recruiting trail has been looking a little bleak as of late for the Auburn football team. July 4 came and went, and along with it two commitments of Auburn targets to Penn State. While fireworks were exploding all over the country, Tyreese Fearbry and Kaleb Artis both decided to play for the Penn State Nittany Lions.

While we wish the two athletes the very best in their careers, we’re hopeful they’ll see why they should have chosen the Tigers when the team makes the trip up to Happy Valley in September.

On the flip side, things have begun to look up with the commitment of the No. 1 kicker in the country–Alex McPherson. The Fort Payne, AL native committed to the Auburn football program just yesterday, and now Bryan Harsin and co. are working to keep another top in-state target in Alabama.

3-star ATH Ja’Kobi “Kobi” Albert officially released his top schools today, including Michigan, Maryland, and the Auburn Tigers. The in-state prospect plays for Fairfield Preparatory School and is ranked the #27 ATH in the recruiting class of 2022. In the month of June, he took official visits to all three of his top schools and is now ready to focus on the trio.

Albert was one of the first players offered by new defensive coordinator Derek Mason and can play safety as well as wide receiver on the other side of the line of scrimmage.

Although it seemed for a while that the Tigers’ big competition for the ATH would come from the Kentucky Wildcats, that spot may have shifted to Michigan, to whom Auburn just lost 3-star cornerback target Myles Pollard to the Wolverines.

After his official visit to the Plains in June, Albert told Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports that “just the football environment” is what he liked most about Auburn, and that it was “top of the line.” It’s not a commitment yet, but Auburn football is that much closer to securing their fifth commitment in the recruiting class of 2022.
