The 2022 recruiting cycle has been one to forget so far for Auburn football and that downward trend continued today as the Tigers lost one of their top commitments for the cycle. Jarell Stinson announced his decommitment from Auburn this afternoon on Twitter, which leaves Auburn with only five commitments for the 2022 recruiting cycle.

Stinson is a 3-star cornerback out of Opelika, AL and ranks as the #474 overall and #45 cornerback in the 2022 recruiting cycle. He committed to the Tigers on December 14th last year and stuck with the Tigers throughout the coaching change and hiring process of the new staff.

Stinson visited the Plains back on June 18th and seemed to be high on the new staff and Auburn football, but did say that he planned on still visiting other programs throughout the summer and fall months.

Chad Simmons from On3Sports released this quote from Stinson about his de-commitment from Auburn football:

Stinson told 247Sports that a decision will come soon and that he plans to announce his final decision in about three weeks. Stinson does have an excellent relationship with Gus Malzahn and Travis Williams, which should make UCF a real contender here.

The de-commitment may not be shocking, but it halts a lot of positive momentum for the Tigers on the recruiting trail and continues to raise concern among the fanbase about Harsin’s first recruiting class. The Tigers still are last in the SEC right now in the 247Sports recruiting ranks and are the only team with single digit commits at this point in the cycle.

This summer has been strenuous on Auburn football supporters, but positive news could be on the horizon as Auburn football made the Top-3 and are favorites for 4-star Damari Alston. The concern is real in Auburn right now as Harsin tries to make a strong push this fall to rebound from this historically slow start on the recruiting trail. The goal is avoid this in the coming years, but right now Auburn football needs to pick it up or be left behind in the SEC, because recruiting is how you win games on Saturday and Auburn is way behind the field right now and it could affect future Saturdays on the Plains.
