Georgia Tech and Auburn football reignite the rivalry

As talk of more SEC teams potentially being added in the future has come about in recent weeks, the idea of teams from Ohio and Michigan joining the conference seems to be tougher to imagine, especially since those states have a much different approach to the seemingly never-ending COVID-19 pandemic.

The idea of adding powerhouses from other conferences isn’t a far-fetched idea, though. Clemson is a natural fit for the SEC given the recent CFP history between it and Alabama and LSU and–while Florida State’s presence is triggering for some Auburn football fans–the Seminoles would be a good addition considering the relatively simple drive from the Plains to Tallahassee.

Since we’re talking ACC teams the SEC could poach to further their top-dog status–and talking potential Auburn football rivals–let’s talk Georgia Tech.

Atlanta is a historical SEC site for major neutral site games, and many alumni from Deep South schools like Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, and the like gravitate towards the area after graduating. If you ask me, it makes a ton of sense to both renew the I85 rivalry between the Tigers and Yellow Jackets and bring Atlanta back into the conference as a normal regular-season road game destination.
