Auburn football: SB says ‘no compelling argument’ for Clemson not to join SEC

SEC realignment has defined the last few weeks for Auburn football fans and fans all over the country. Texas and Oklahoma leaving the Big 12 for the SEC got the ball rolling for ideas of an SEC Super League and a Big 12-Pac 12 merger.

It also has gotten takes from all over the FanSided networks in response. And said views are far from uniform.

FS’ Texas A&M site Gig Em Gazette, for example, feels that the SEC adding more national powers would be going a step too far.

FS’ Clemson site Rubbing the Rock, however, is more receptive to the idea of a team like Clemson or Florida State joining…with the condition they do so together.

Well, FS’ general college football site Saturday Blitz lives in the harsh reality (to some) that the best way forward for a program like Clemson–who is responsible for two of the three non-SEC National Championships since the CFP began in 2015–is to make like the Sooners and Longhorns and step up to the college football heavyweight division:

"Given the reasons for OU and Texas to make the jump to the SEC, there’s no compelling argument for Clemson to remain in the ACC. University leaders in Clemson, S.C. and Tallahassee, Fla. won’t want to see their universities fall behind."

SB’s John Scimeca got very creative in figuring out how the Big Ten could stay competitive with the SEC after the losses suffered by the ACC (hypothetical) and the Big 12 (actual) effectively sap the two conferences of their relevance:

"In some sense, it could mean that the Big Ten adds the four prize gems of the ailing Pac-12: probably Oregon, Washington, USC, and UCLA."

As time moves on, the powers that be in Clemson, South Carolina will realize what Scimeca and Fly War Eagle believe: The Clemson Tigers belong in the SEC.

Sure, having another team with the Tigers mascot isn’t the absolute best thing that could happen for the Auburn football brand, but it’d be a boon for the economy on the Plains.

Not only that, but Tigertown East (we all know Tigertown West is in Opelika) would benefit immensely from gamedays just meaning more in a far superior conference.
