Fall has officially begun for the Auburn football team. We are just one month away from the beginning of the 2021 season and entering stadiums that haven’t seen full capacity crowds in nearly two years. People will pour onto the Plains from all over the state, and some of the surrounding ones as well.
Today marks the start of the team’s fall camp, and players reported for team meetings to kick things off. Tomorrow, the team will split into veterans and newcomers for practice, then come together for full team practice on Saturday.
First-year head coach Bryan Harsin and his inaugural coaching staff got to work on the recruiting trail immediately once taking the reins of the Auburn football program, and they managed to add nine transfers to the roster from the NCAA transfer portal in the offseason.
Though eight of those transfers have arrived on campus, the Tigers’ most recent addition has yet to arrive on the Plains. Demetris Robertson, wide receiver transfer from UGA, is still tying up a few loose ends related to academics in Athens, according to Bryan Harsin.
Robertson will add much-needed experience to Auburn football’s wide receiver room, which lost many key members this offseason to the NFL. He began his career at Cal, where he caught 57 passes for 837 yards and 7 touchdowns in two seasons, the second of which was shortened due to injury.
He transferred to Georgia for the 2018 season and played 23 games over three seasons in Athens. Throughout his career with the Dawgs, Robertson caught 42 passes for 440 yards and three touchdowns.
With plenty of SEC experience and a breakout freshman season under his belt, Demetris Robertson should be a major asset for the Tigers’ offense in 2021.
