It’s been a busy week for former Auburn football running back Peyton Barber. After spending a year with the Washington Football Team, they released him Tuesday after rookie RB Jaret Patterson beat him out for the role in training camp and preseason.
According to Hog’s Haven, Washington’s coach took a liking to Barber, which is why he was signed to the practice squad just one day later:
"The team released Barber during the 53-man roster cuts down on Tuesday, but signed him to the practice squad the following day when he cleared waivers. Washington’s coached liked Barber, and his reliability at picking up the needed yards."
However, it wasn’t long before he was jumping from Washington to the Las Vegas Raiders. Third-string RB Jalen Richards was moved to injured reserve, and Barber will take his place. Now, the Washington Football Team is on the hunt for a new running back and another former Auburn player is back in action.
Auburn football fans were happy to see Barber signed to the Raiders’ 53-man roster even though he may not get a whole lot of playing time right away:
Barber is entering his sixth season in the NFL, and his first with the Las Vegas Raiders. Prior to his one-year stint in Washington, he spent four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Barber has racked up a career total of 2,245 rushing yards for 19 touchdowns and 123 first downs.
He will be the third active running back on the Raiders’ roster, behind Josh Jacobs and Kenyan Drake. The move leaves the Washington football team with no running backs on their practice squad.
