Off to a great start under new head coach Bryan Harsin, the Auburn football team is on a warpath to win the SEC West after knocking off the #17 Arkansas Razorbacks on the road. With only two losses on their record, both being from top 10 teams, the Tigers have the potential to make the December trip to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game.

In fact, Bryan Harsin’s first-year 5-2 record is the best of all the first-year coaches in the FBS league this season, most of them stuck at 4-3–see Steve Sarkisian and Josh Heupel. While Auburn football still has one of the most difficult schedules in the country even after seven games, they still control their destiny as potential SEC champions.

At this point in the season, there are few people in the world of college football who aren’t impressed with Bryan Harsin. Even Alabama football alumnus Greg McElroy had kudos for Harsin, claiming he should be considered as SEC Coach of the Year:

It’s a possibility, but the thing about the SEC this year is that it has absolutely been turned on its head. Alabama lost to Texas A&M and Florida lost to LSU and Kentucky was undefeated until they played #1 Georgia, so there’s a lot going on. Many argue that Kentucky football head coach Mark Stoops should win the award, as the Wildcats are charging through their best season in years at 6-1, the only one coming close being their 10-3 record in 2018.

However, it’s undoubtedly an accomplishment that Harsin has adjusted so quickly from the Mountain West Conference to that of the grueling SEC. There’s a lot of football left to be played this season, but Harsin definitely deserves credit for the success he’s had so far with Auburn football.
