There are mixed opinions on where Auburn football could end up when it comes time for 2021 bowl season selections.

Some believe the Tigers are destined for a New Year’s Six bowl, a marquee matchup, and the financial stimulus that comes with a marquee matchup during New Year’s.

Others are a bit more bearish about the level of prestige AU’s bowl will end up being. Though no one is complaining about the road trip it’d require.

Big Game Boomer, notorious college football Twitter list-maker, went with an NY6 showdown with one of the pillar programs of college football, Notre Dame:

The Fighting Irish and the Tigers have no prior history. Bryan Harsin’s first bowl game could have Notre Dame showing their true colors of blowing it in the big game. If Florida State could hang with them, AU’s physicality could overwhelm, even in a neutral site game in a different region of the country.

Flights to Phoenix wouldn’t stop the Auburn family from seeing their Tigers.

Meanwhile, Soaring Down South has Auburn football doing so for the Outback Bowl against Wisconsin in Tampa.

In the situation that the Tigers end up in a NY6 bowl, wins at Kyle Field this Saturday against Texas A&M or in Jordan-Hare Stadium in the Iron Bowl, and with two straight triumphs over Mississippi State (home) and South Carolina (away).

A run to the SEC Championship game in Atlanta concluding in a loss against Georgia might even put them in such a position. The CFP would be out of reach in that scenario.

In a non-NY6 game? Then we’re talking 7-5 or 8-4 to get in. Just so we’re clear, Bryan Harsin isn’t having this team go 6-6.

Whatever the case, we’ll have more clarity on a consensus after #12 Auburn football takes on the #13 Aggies this Saturday afternoon.
