Auburn football EDGE T.D. Moultry was disqualified on Saturday after what can only be described as a phantom targeting call on a sack of Mississippi State QB Will Rogers.

It wasn’t the first of the 2021 season called against the Tigers at a crucial point, but it could be the most pivotal when its all said and done.

The play led to a six-yard touchdown toss from Rogers to Malik Heath that put the Bulldogs up 43-28. Mississippi State won by a 43-34 final.

Moultry hit Rogers head-on, with their helmets colliding and creating a snap-back visual of Rogers’ head. That was apparently enough to call the pure football play targeting.

And that was enough to send Tiger fans into a frenzy:

It does appear that CFP and the SEC Championship are both now out of reach for Auburn football. Avenge last year’s loss at Williams-Brice Stadium against South Carolina and beat the ‘team up north’ in the Iron Bowl.

It’s basketball season now.
