Former Auburn football quarterback Cam Newton is no longer a free agent and things suddenly feel right again. After signing with the Carolina Panthers in a homecoming move last week, he’s back on the field and already making an impact for the Panthers just three days later.
Newton ran for a two-yard touchdown on the first drive, putting the Panthers on the board versus the Arizona Cardinals and officially scoring his first touchdown of the 2021 season. Panthers QB P.J. Walker led the team down the field before Newton entered at the goal line.
Naturally, he was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after letting everyone know that he’s officially back.
Panthers Wire reports that Newton’s touchdown was his 59th from scrimmage in his career with Carolina, which moves him into second place in the team’s history. It makes his 71st rushing touchdown, but Newton was not satisfied with just six points during his return.
Before the first quarter wound down, Newton was again at the goal line and passed to Robby Anderson for another six points.
Haters gonna hate, but Auburn football fans are ecstatic to see Cam Newton doing Cam Newton things in the NFL again. In just the first quarter, the Panthers are up 17-0 with two Newton touchdowns and more to come.
Newton’s deal with the Carolina Panthers is a one-year deal, and he’s expected to make his first start for the team that made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft next weekend versus Washington.
