Auburn football potential transfer #3: Tank Bigsby

In what would be the absolutely most devastating possible transfer portal defection, Auburn could lose its 2020 Second Team All-SEC running back and 2020 SEC Freshman of the Year, Tank Bigsby.

Like Bo Nix, Bigsby had a sophomore slump that lasted much of the season in his second year on the Plains. But now with a second straight season ending in disappointment, the Tigers could be scaring away their top recruits from the pre-Bryan Harsin era…especially considering the controversy that surrounded the 2021 schedule just about the whole way, whether it was refereeing blunders, QB battles, or the COVID-19 vaccine.

Bigsby was a Gus Malzahn signee that had interest from several other SEC programs, and with his role wildly fluctuating game to game, he may decide that his best path to a big NFL contract is elsewhere.

That Bigsby had any performance of less than 50 yards, let alone three, is damning. This was a player that had Heisman hype coming into the season, after all. But, as we saw, the Tigers OL wasn’t consistent enough to facilitate the kind of year many foresaw of him.

Tiger fans have put the energy of Bigsby transferring out in the universe already, and players take note of this whether fans think they do or not. Let’s hope this prediction is incorrect, because losing Tank would be a worst-case scenario for the Auburn backfield this upcoming offseason.
