Auburn football fans split on idea of adding Spencer Rattler via transfer portal
As the old saying goes, ‘life comes at you fast. On the Plains in 2021, it has come at Auburn football fans like The Shinkansen.
About a month ago, following the Ole Miss win, there were legitimate hopes of making the SEC Championship game and pushing for the CFP with a strong end to the season.
Strong is the biggest antonym one could scrounge up to call the win-less November the Tigers just went through, though. Multiple blown double-digit leads riddled with poor play-calling undid Auburn football’s once-promising campaign and now it appears as though the sky is falling.
There were rumors of Bryan Harsin leaving for his native Pacific Northwest to take the vacant Washington head coaching job (debunked today with a different hire) and rumors of Tank Bigsby looking for a place he could be featured as a work-horse back in.
Those would be/have been devastating losses, but not more so than the possibility of Bo Nix transferring, first raised by Justin Hokanson of On3 Sports.
If Nix is gone, then as it stands, AU faces an even steeper uphill climb during a 2022 schedule that may be more difficult than the one they just endured in 2021. Considering this year yielded a 6-6 record with a 3-5 SEC tally, that would spell endless trouble for a team that cannot afford a repeat performance next year.
But if they were to land an impact transfer, perhaps the narrative would shift. Who would qualify as such, though?
Well, Spencer Rattler sure would. The Phoenix, Arizona senior-to-be entered the transfer portal today after being benched due to both poor performance and a questionable attitude of not supporting the team following his own ouster from the lineup. That said, he was a Heisman hopeful heading into the 2021 season and many had him atop their NFL Draft boards.
Tiger fans deliberated on the topic, and while some fans are sold on the former 5-star recruit, others want him nowhere near Auburn city limits:
If you were to ask Fly War Eagle? That’s going to be a no from me, dog.
