On a day where the AAC found out that its champion, Cincinnati, will have the biggest game in the history of the conference against Alabama in the #1-#4 matchup in the College Football Playoff, the conference’s runner-up, Houston, found out that Auburn football will be next on the Cougars’ schedule.
On Tuesday, December 28th, the Tigers will be the de-facto host of the Birmingham Bowl as they travel 100 miles to the northwest to welcome the Cougars to the Yellowhammer State.
AU gets a top-notch Group of Five opponent to finish out what was one of the nation’s toughest schedules. UH only lost to Cincinnati in the AAC Championship game yesterday and to Texas Tech in the season opener.
Tiger fans weren’t exactly ecstatic about the matchup:
So we gotta play an 11-2 team in the Birmingham Bowl? I’m assuming half our team will opt out and this will be Houston’s biggest game of the century. Love this for us.

I can’t do nothing but laugh at us.

Of course, per tradition, Alabama fans had to get shots in on their supposed ‘little brother’ despite being the #1 overall seed in the College Football Playoff:
West Georgia U is actually going to be in the Birmingham Bowl. Imagine being so garbage that you end up in that bowl. After they fired their coach last year for “not winning enough” pic.twitter.com/1dPLhplhZS

Obsessed…
Tickets on the secondary market for the game, which will be played at UAB’s new home stadium, Protective Stadium, for the first time, are on sale now and are delightfully affordable.
Tiger fans need to make sure there isn’t a sea of red and that Auburn football feels a homefield advantage on December 28th.
