Auburn football: Tigers pursuing two 4-star running back recruits
With the early signing period right around the corner, Auburn football’s staff has been flying all over the country to visit with potential 2022 recruits. While many position groups are still up in the air in terms of who will sign with the Tigers, there are two specific running backs Auburn has seemed to narrow in on.
Currently, Auburn football has only one running back on the 2022 roster in 4-star Damari Alston out of Atlanta, Georgia. We can expect first-year head coach Bryan Harsin and his staff to sign at least one more running back, but probably not both RBs.
The Tigers’ first choice would be to land former LSU commit Tre Citizen. The 4-star Louisiana native de-committed from LSU after the program replace Ed Orgeron with former Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. Citizen officially visited Auburn football in June but has also been offered by Florida’s new head coach Billy Napier and Auburn Undercover reports that Brian Kelly is not yet ready to give up on the former commit.
However, Citizen could wait until February to make an official decision, and in that case, it’s likely the Tigers would go with 4-star running back Justin Williams. Two days ago, Williams narrowed his choices down between Auburn and Tennessee.
Unlike Tre Citizen, Williams is an early enrollee who will make his college choice during the early signing period next week. Auburn Undercover reports that Williams has grown close with Tigers running back coach Cadillac Williams after his official visit last weekend, but there is growing optimism in Knoxville, where the running back will officially visit this upcoming weekend.
We can expect Justin Williams’ announcement on December 15, but it could be a little bit longer before we know where Tre Citizen will continue his college career.
