At long last, the fight between Auburn basketball, Bruce Pearl, and the NCAA has come to an end. Four years and 1,536 days later, the Tigers have been handed their official penalty for former assistant coach Chuck Person’s crimes.
Taking into account last year’s self-imposed postseason ban, the NCAA will not keep the Tigers from March Madness this season and will only suspend Bruce Pearl for two games. Without an impending decision looming over his head, Auburn basketball fans are looking forward to seeing Bruce Pearl lead this year’s Tigers back to the Final Four.
However, basketball analyst Jeff Goodman believes that the best thing for Pearl to do is jump ship and take what Goodman describes as “a better basketball job” at Maryland:
With such a minor penalty and the NCAA decision behind him, now the question becomes whether Maryland makes a run at Bruce Pearl.

Just not sure Maryland could/would pay what it takes to lure Pearl, but he’s a northeast guy and Maryland is a better basketball job.
Immediately Auburn basketball fans went in on the analyst, laughing at his awful take and wondering how exactly Maryland is the better job:
How is Maryland the better job in 2021? How? Auburn is a tourney team with Bruce. Auburn is top 20, possibly top 10 by years end. Auburn has been to a FF, more recently and has a decent shot this year.

Yeah man I’m sure a school who hasn’t made a final four in the lifetime of any high school recruit is a huge job https://t.co/iDminiyrWw

War Damn Bruce Pearl !!

Bruce Pearl has spent his tenure at Auburn developing the basketball program into a powerhouse, and it’s highly unlikely that he’d up and leave for another school just because the NCAA investigation is finally over. With a team like this, Pearl can expect great things from this season and his future on the Plains.
