As Auburn football’s search for a transfer portal quarterback continues, things have apparently gotten pretty serious in the recruitment of Texas A&M transfer QB Zach Calzada. The Tigers are keeping busy during the current dead period by hitting the portal hard, searching for talent to add to the 2022 roster.
Though many fans are hoping for Oklahoma transfer quarterback Caleb Williams, the reality seems to be that head coach Bryan Harsin and newly-hired offensive coordinator Austin Davis are actively pursuing the former Aggie. Calzada started 10 games as a sophomore at TAMU after replacing an injured Haynes King and passed for 2,185 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Calzada visited the Indiana football program earlier this week, but according to Auburn Live, the quarterback arrived on campus for an official visit with Auburn football on Wednesday and is expected to be on the Plains until Thursday.
But Calzada isn’t the only important transfer taking an official visit this week. Louisiana offensive lineman transfer O’Cyrus Torrence is on the Plains, too. The OL started all three years he played for the Rajun Cajuns and was twice selected for All-Sun Belt honors.
Torrence has received offers from Michigan State, Clemson, and Ole Miss–as well as from his former coach Billy Napier at Florida–and has plans to visit both the Swamp and LSU, per Swamp 247. Though he plans to visit other programs, offensive line coach Will Friend has the opportunity to get in early and secure a huge commitment for his position group.
Many expect Torrence to follow Billy Napier to Florida, but securing the experienced offensive lineman would be a major win for Friend and the Tigers.
