Auburn football fans react to Gus Malzahn, UCF landing John Rhys Plumlee
It’s not always that Auburn football fans speak well of former Tigers coach Gus Malzahn and his new program, UCF.
Today, that is the case.
Malzahn and the Knights landed a talented dual-sport transfer from the portal that could be in the mix for QB1 in 2022 following the departure of Dillon Gabriel to Oklahoma. John Rhys Plumlee, a QB that converted to WR under Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss, is Orlando-bound.
And Tiger fans approve of the move:
Plumlee was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. The Oak Grove product out of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, also played in the outfield for the Rebels baseball team, but he’ll be heading to UCF as a QB first and foremost after recording 25 catches for 280 receiving yards the past two years lining up aa a receiver.
His freshman year at Ole Miss showed how dominant Plumlee could be on the ground, where he finished with over 1,000 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. Gus Malzahn had been known to excel with a QB with legs (Cam Newton and Nick Marshall say hello) during his days with Auburn football as an OC and HC, so if Plumlee and Malzahn can collectively dial it back to 2019, big things could be happening at the Bounce House this season.
