With several of the most productive receivers from the 2021 season parting ways with Auburn football for whatever reason, the coaching staff is turning to the transfer portal to fill in some of the gaps.

Former University of Louisiana wide receiver Kyren Lacy was a high priority for the Tigers and even made it to campus for a visit. However, Auburn football ultimately missed out on the receiver and Lacy committed to in-state LSU.

Now, a high-profile WR from the SEC East has entered the transfer portal, and several members of the Auburn roster have taken notice. UGA wide receiver Jermaine Burton announced yesterday that he would be hitting the portal and leaving the reigning National Champions in Athens:

Burton, a native of Calabasas, CA, was originally a 4-star prospect out of high school and committed to LSU early on before flipping to Georgia on early signing day as a member of the class of 2020.

The WR saw game action in both of his seasons in Athens. In 2020, Burton totaled 27 receptions for 404 yards and 3 touchdowns. Last season he recorded 26 catches for 497 yards and 5 touchdowns.

As far as class of 2022 running back commit Damari Alston and returning quarterback TJ Finley are concerned, they would like to see Jermaine Burton in orange and blue in 2022:

According to Saturdays Down South, Burton is interested in an SEC West team, but it’s not Auburn football. Chris Hummer of 247Sports indicated that Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M would all be SEC West options that make sense for the transfer WR:

Despite his ties to other schools, Burton would obviously be a great addition to the Tigers’ 2022 wide receivers room.
