The Auburn basketball program is currently in the midst of what could be its best season ever, but that hasn’t stopped the bad takes from reporters that head coach Bruce Pearl is itching to leave the Plains.

In his eighth season as Auburn basketball’s head coach, Pearl has managed to craft a team that achieved the program’s first number one ranking in history and possibly includes the number one pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Pearl has undeniably transformed the basketball program at Auburn, from recruiting students to show up to games to having students line up hours (or days) ahead of tip-off.

But Bruce Pearl doesn’t just love Auburn; the community loves him back. Between running the AUTLIVE initiative and showing up to hand out breakfast to The Jungle, Pearl has managed to become one of the most loved people in Auburn Athletics.

And yet, after building this program from the ground up and having so much success on the Plains, reporters are still trying to convince people that Pearl is dying to take a job somewhere else, this time at Louisville:

Not only did Dominique Yates, a reporter on his first week of the job at WLKY following a position with The Courier-Journal, say that Pearl really wants the Louisville job, but he also insinuated that Louisville might not want Bruce Pearl. The idea that a basketball program wouldn’t be interested in Pearl is just ludicrous, and Auburn basketball fans didn’t entertain the thought for a second:

While some argue that Louisville is a “higher-tier” basketball job, it’s really hard to picture Bruce Pearl leaving the situation he’s in currently. Maybe the idea of Pearl to Louisville would be more believable if the “sources” were to be identified. For now, we remain confident that Bruce Pearl is an Auburn man.
