The Caleb Williams saga has finally, officially, for certain, concluded. Auburn football fans didn’t see it end the way they would have hoped (and how some believed it would) but can now move on from the thought of the Oklahoma transfer choosing them.

USC always had the inside track because of Lincoln Riley’s decision to make Williams a star in Norman, Oklahoma by benching Spencer Rattler, who found a new home in the SEC with the South Carolina Gamecocks himself.

While Georgia seemed like a potential dark horse to land Williams–before Stetson Bennett announced his return following the first National Championship in Athens since 1980–and Wisconsin strangely entered the mix at one point themselves, Riley locked down Williams officially on Tuesday morning.

Auburn football fans had varied reactions to the news, but don’t mistake happiness for any of them:

Of course, the Austin Davis question was one asked as well:

Ultimately, the Davis situation was one that probably wouldn’t have changed Williams’ mind anyway. But it is one that hopefully doesn’t affect either Zach Calzada or Robby Ashford, who both expressed hurt/disbelief in the form of cryptic tweets.

Luckily, neither can immediately play for a hypothetical next team after using their one-time transfer to come to the Plains. But it’d be preferable to see both happy and confident in the program’s prospect moving forward.
