There’s no denying that Auburn football didn’t have the National Signing Day it was hoping for. The Tigers were aiming to sign three new recruits to the roster in the form of edge Jack Pyburn, running back Trevonte Citizen, and offensive lineman Jalen Farmer, but all three chose programs other than Auburn.

To make matters worse, the Tigers also had a player enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Wide receiver Ja’Varrius Johnson’s decision to enter the portal meant that by the end of National Signing Day, the Tigers were left with fewer players than when the day began. 20 former Tigers have left the program since the end of the 2021 season, and 11 of the 21 signees from the recruiting class of 2019 are gone.

In addition to all of the player losses, the Auburn football program is also dealing with staff turnovers heading into spring practice. Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback coach Austin Davis was hired to replace Mike Bobo following his firing at the end of the season.

After defensive line coach Nick Eason left for Clemson and defensive coordinator Derek Mason left for Oklahoma State, Harsin rearranged his staff to promote Jeff Schmedding to DC, add Christian Robinson to coach linebackers, and add Jimmy Brumbaugh to coach the defensive line.

Just when everyone thought the on-field staff was completed, offensive coordinator Austin Davis resigned for personal reasons. With players and staff members leaving the Plains at an alarming rate, a dark cloud is hanging over the Auburn football program.

However, recruiting class of 2022 tight end signee Micah Riley-Ducker had a message for the Auburn family on Twitter:

At the end of the day, Tiger fans should remember that Auburn still has the #18 recruiting class in the country, and in the words of Trovon Reed, we ain’t done yet.
