Auburn basketball fans react to Zep Jasper’s monster offense vs. Ole Miss
Auburn basketball fans have always been Zep Jasper fans. Nicknamed “the honey badger” reminiscent of LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu, Jasper has been a major factor in the Tigers’ lockdown defense this season.
The Tigers struggled a little over the two games that Jasper missed due to illness, and recently Bruce Pearl’s squad has been inconsistent in their offense. Pearl said in his post-game interview last night that Auburn “isn’t playing our best basketball” but unlocking Zep Jasper’s shooting abilities could be a major key in elevating the Tigers’ offense.
Jasper went into last night’s game averaging 4.5 points per game and ended the night with a season-high 15 points, shooting 5-7 and making 4-5 from behind the arc. The game announcers referred to the guard as Jep Zasper more than once during the broadcast, leading fans to create Jasper’s alter-ego as a monster offensive player:
Auburn Rivals reports that a text from head coach Bruce Pearl triggered Jasper’s aggression on the offense, encouraging him to do what his teammates knew he could all along:
"“He’s so confident defensively, I just wanted him to know that I believed in him offensively,” said Pearl. “I think we would be better for it. And we were. And, look, Zep made the shots. Zep made the plays.”"
With the help of an incredible Zep Jasper (Jep Zasper?), Auburn basketball now moves to 25-3 overall and still leads the conference at 13-2. They will face another tough road test in Knoxville this weekend versus the Tennessee Volunteers.
