While Auburn football’s staff has been zeroing in on offensive lineman to add to the recruiting class of 2023, another position group in desperate need of new talent is the wide receivers room. Head coach Bryan Harsin announced this week that former Steelers WR coach Ike Hilliard would be stepping in on the Plains, and the allure of his NFL experience could heighten the interest of many talented prospects.

The Tigers extended an offer to Hutchinson Community College wide receiver Malik Benson earlier this week, trying to pull in talent from the same program that delivered Marquise Gilbert to the Plains on early signing day, but now they should turn their attention to this newly de-committed prospect from the state of Florida.

4-star wide receiver Daquayvious Sorey announced on Twitter this morning that he was stepping back from his commitment to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs, and that his recruitment is “110 percent open”:

Listed as the #14 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2023 and the #20 recruit out of the state of Florida, Sorey originally committed to the Dawgs in February of 2021. His cousin, 5-star LB Xavian Sorey, signed with Georgia in the class of 2021.

Sorey’s de-commitment comes after UGA brought in new wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon earlier this month following Cortez Hankton’s departure for LSU.

According to Max Preps, Sorey recorded 30 receptions for 546 yards and six touchdowns as a junior in the 2021-22 season in addition to 16 carries for 187 and two more touchdowns. From his scouting report on 247 Sports, it’s clear that Sorey offers versatility as an athlete and would add a lot of talent to Auburn football’s wide receivers room:

"Transferred into Chipley (Fla.) from nearby Graceville. Got snaps on both sides of the ball. Credited with 753 yards of total offense (546 receiving) and eight touchdowns in 13 games. He also returned a pair of punts for touchdowns while totaling 28 tackles, nine pass break ups and four interceptions on defense."

If Ike Hilliard and the rest of the Tigers’ recruiting staff can sway the 4-star to join the ranks of Auburn football, it would be a major win for Bryan Harsin on the Plains.
