AL.com has some good news for Auburn football fans in Nubyjas Wilborn’s ‘5 position battles to watch when Auburn starts spring football’ article published Saturday.

According to Wilborn, the position group in most need of a boost, the offensive line, could be set to add a depth piece from the transfer portal.

As currently constructed, there are key upperclassmen (Nick Brahms, Austin Troxell, Brandon Council, Kiondre Jones) making their way back to the offensive trenches.

But there could be more on the way:

"If Brahms, Troxell, Council, and Jones are healthy and engaged, there’s a strong chance the Tigers could improve on last year’s 6-7 record. The Tigers have to replace Brodarious Hamm at right tackle. Kilian Zierer started in Hamm’s place in the Birmingham Bowl loss against Houston.Auburn might hit the portal to fill out the room once camp ends."

Auburn football must add to a position many have questioned over the years

In order to get positive press with Tiger fans that have endured quite an arduous offseason with the Auburn Board of Trustees aiming to destroy Bryan Harsin’s reputation, fortifying either the OL or the WR room–or by the grace of God, both–would move the momentum needle where it needs to be.

The SEC West is too competitive to be down for too long. AU is being projected to finish at the bottom of the SEC West standings in 2022, and while college football often laughs at the predictions people make before the season, it’s tangible around the south that Auburn football has negative momentum.

Again, these things change quickly with the right personnel moves and the right guys seizing the spotlight.

The transfer portal provided AU with one of their top receivers (Demetris Robertson) a year ago, so the hope is that the other current weakness gets fortified before the fall.
