Auburn basketball fans react to Devan Cambridge entering transfer portal
With Auburn basketball’s season coming to an untimely end in the round of 32 in this year’s March Madness, the focus has turned to what next season’s roster will look like with several players expected to move on from the Plains.
While it’s almost certain that star freshman Jabari Smith will declare for the 2022 NBA Draft, questions remain about the future of Walker Kessler and who will return for Auburn basketball’s 2022-23 season.
One question was answered this morning as junior guard Devin Cambridge announced that he would be entering the transfer portal:
The news comes on the heels of the announcement that his brother, Desmond Cambridge, chose to enter the transfer portal as well. The older Cambridge is parting ways with Nevada, where he was named All-Mountain West third-team as a senior.
According to Travis Branham of 247 Sports, the Cambridge brothers plan to reunite and play on the same team for the next season.
Devan Cambridge certainly had his highs as a Tiger, slamming down some of the best dunks in Auburn Arena and dominating as a rebounder, but he also struggled with his shot and declined in his three-point shooting percentage with each year he spent on Bruce Pearl’s squad.
While there’s always a hint of sadness at the loss of a player, many Auburn basketball fans wish Cambridge the best of luck going forward, and are excited to see what he does with his new program:
The era of Bounceman is over on the Plains, but Devan Cambridge most definitely has a bright future ahead of him.
