With new defensive coordinator Jeff Schmedding and new defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh leading the way for Auburn football’s defense, the Tigers are working hard to recruit top prospects from around the country for the class of 2023.

One target for the defensive line was on campus this weekend after making the short trip from nearby Columbus, Georgia. 4-star defensive end Darron Reed took his second visit to the Plains on Thursday, his first time back on campus since the 2021 Iron Bowl.

Reed is listed as the #299 overall prospect and the #46 defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2023 and is the #30 recruit out of the state of Georgia. Keith Niebuhr of Auburn Undercover reports that Reed’s top schools prior to the visit were Florida State, Miami, and Ohio State, but Reed noted that the Tigers have moved up on his list following his Thursday visit:

"“It went great (Thursday),” Reed said. “I got to put the name with a face with (defensive line coach Jimmy) Brumbaugh. I like the way he teaches the stuff. He doesn’t make it hard. The way he talks, he makes stuff easy — the defensive stuff. When I was talking to the coaches — the way (Brumbaugh) teaches the D-Line. That stood out.”"

The defensive lineman is set to release his top eight schools on May 18. He does not yet know when he will officially commit but has stated that he plans to be an early enrollee. According to Auburn Live, interest in Auburn football is steadily rising for Reed and he plans to make a return trip to the Plains:

"“It (interest) is very high. It’s higher than what it was at first. It went up some because I got to put faces with names and sitting down talking to them (coaches). I’ll be back down there sometime soon.”"

From Reed’s quotes, it’s clear that d-line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh continues to impress recruits and be a key factor in their interest in the Tigers.
