Auburn football makes Top 9 for 4-star New Jersey DL
As the summer months begin to arrive on the Plains, recruiting is a major focus for the Auburn football coaching staff following spring training. The coaches have been conducting one-on-one evaluations with the players on the roster and are still likely shopping the transfer portal for fresh talent, but the focus is mainly on securing the class of 2023.
Many high school recruits have begun to narrow their lists of prospective schools, releasing their top schools and heading into the homestretch of their recruitment processes. Auburn football has remained in the mix for several top prospects as of late, and added another over the weekend.
4-star defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell, from Oradell, New Jersey, cut his list of schools down to nine on Sunday afternoon, and included Auburn football along with Kentucky, Miami, Rutgers, Texas, Georgia, Texas A&M, LSU, and Tennessee:
Mitchell is ranked as the #224 overall prospect and #32 defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2023 and is the #3 player out of the state of New Jersey. He has been to the Plains only once, and that was for the Junior Day event the Tigers held in March.
According to Auburn Live, Mitchell really valued getting to see an actual Auburn football practice, and has a great relationship with the Tigers’ defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh:
"“I love him, man,” Mitchell said with a grin. “He always has a smile on his face, but he’s real intense, you know, locked in during practice, too. He knows when it’s play time and when to be serious. I like how he does his schemes and things like that. He lets everybody get a chance in practice.”"
The DL is likely to take more visits before planning to make his final decision in August.
