In the past few weeks, the Auburn football team has been successful in making top schools lists for most of their priority targets for the recruiting class of 2023. Yesterday, the Tigers received more good news as they were listed in the top seven schools for 4-star edge Hunter Clegg.
The west coast prospect is ranked as the #186 overall prospect and the #17 edge in the recruiting class of 2023, and is the #3 prospect out of the state of Utah. According to Max Preps, Clegg racked up 29 total tackles with nine tackles for loss in the ten games of his junior season, in addition to five sacks for 26 yards.
Auburn football offered the American Fork native back in February after he got the opportunity to speak on the phone with coaches, and was happy about the offer, per Auburn Live. Clegg’s school was also a stop for edge coach Roc Bellantoni on the “Tiger Takeover” recruiting tour in the last few weeks:
"“I like it a lot. The SEC is a huge platform. I’d be playing at the highest level and in front of tons of people. There’s also so many resources to become the best player possible.”"
Clegg’s other top schools include BYU, Baylor, Southern California, LSU, Stanford, and Utah. Unsurprisingly, many of Clegg’s top schools are further west and closer to home, but the two SEC programs that offered him–LSU and Auburn–are still hanging in there.
The edge plans to take multiple visits this summer, and it’s definitely important to him to get on the Plains and see the program for himself. Though the 247 Crystal Ball predicts that Clegg will end up choosing Utah, there is a long way to go before his recruitment is over, and the Tigers have a real chance to secure the 4-star edge.
