Auburn football: The Register-Guard tabs Bo Nix Oregon starting quarterback

Former Auburn football QB Bo Nix is looking like the No. 1 option in the Oregon QB room in 2022, and yet another sign is pointing towards the Ducks giving him the reigns to the offense this coming season on Day 1.

The Register-Guard, the local paper published in Eugene, Oregon, predicted Nix would be the starting quarterback over Ty Thompson and Jay Butterfield.

This isn’t shocking considering Nix’s dominance during the Oregon spring game back on April 23rd. After spending much of the offseason being tabbed behind Thompson, Nix made a big late push in April to usurp the freshman out of Gilbert, Arizona.

Thompson downplayed the QB competition earlier this offseason when asked about the race under center between he, Nix, and Butterfield:

"“He’s been a big blessing for me the past couple of months. I’m very grateful for the things he’s done especially for this team and myself. Everyone likes to pin the quarterbacks against each other especially if we’re competing. It’ll never be like that with me and Bo, and even Butters [Jay Butterfield]. He’s done a great job of leading the team, of coming in humble and as a work harder. I have nothing but great things to say about Bo.”"

Bo Nix has gone toe to toe with SEC defenses that produced several NFL Draft picks. LSU, Georgia, and Alabama have been historically potent the past three years Nix spent on the Plains, making the competition the Pinson product will face in the Pac-12 pale in comparison.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Nix could become a household name for what he does this season in Oregon. If that happens, Tiger fans that couldn’t keep his name out of their mouths could instead have their feet there instead.
