Auburn football: No. 3 EDGE Tausili Akana talks Plains visit
The Auburn football coaching staff has been impressive so far during their campaign to recruit members of the 2023 recruiting class to the Plains. The Tigers have consistently been named in various recruits’ top schools lists and have earned official visits from much-wanted prospects all over the country.
Over the weekend, the Tigers hosted 4-star edge, Tausili Akana, all the way from his home in Hawaii. Though originally from the islands, Akana plays high school ball in Utah and is ranked as the #60 overall recruit and the #3 edge in the recruiting class of 2023 in addition to being the #1 ranked prospect out of the state of Utah.
Akana is currently taking a tour around the country and visiting multiple schools on his extensive offer list. He visited Tennessee before heading to the Plains, and will then take visits to Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, Baylor, and Texas before returning home.
The young linebacker puts a high priority on being able to play in the Southeastern Conference, but has not narrowed things down at all yet and is still taking everything in. However, Auburn Undercover reports that being able to meet the coaches and spend time with them was extremely important to Akana on his visit to Auburn:
"“I’d definitely say the coaches,” Akana said about what stood out. “Getting to hang out with them face-to-face. Putting a name to the face and just spend time with them and build a relationship.”"
Akana is very likely to return to the Plains at least one more time before he makes a decision, and he plans to get on campus for a game this fall as well as take an official visit. Auburn football currently only has three edge rushers on the roster, and with two of them likely parting ways with the team after this season, the allure of early playing time could be enough to make Tausili Akana an Auburn Tiger.
