The Auburn football coaching staff has put lots of hard work into recruiting the class of 2023, and the Tigers have earned spots in many prospects’ top schools lists as well as the opportunity to host a lot of those prospects for an official visit.

One of the position groups the Tigers are working hard to improve upon is the wide receiver corps. The 2022 season will definitely provide the opportunity for someone to step up, but overall the position group is lacking proven experience.

The latest WR to earn an offer from Auburn football is 3-star Ja’Kobi Lane. He is ranked as the #444 overall prospect and the #54 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2023 in addition to being the #9 recruit out of the state of Arizona.

Wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard and Lane have been in communication for awhile, and Lane was surprised to learn of the offer during a phone conversation with his would-be position coach–his first SEC offer so far. Already, Hilliard’s coaching resume has impressed the recruit, per Auburn Live:

"“He’s a great dude, a really, really good person, a people’s person,” Lane said. “He definitely knows a lot about the game and has experience and been through a lot. You know he’s definitely a valuable source.”"

Lane has never visited the Plains before, but an offer from an SEC school has generated real interest in the Tigers from the wide receiver, and he told Auburn Live that he is familiar with Auburn football and plans to visit for sure later on in the summer, though he doesn’t know whether it will be an official or unofficial visit.

So far, the wide receiver has amassed 13 offers. He has unofficially visited Arizona State and is scheduled to officially visit Colorado State this weekend. A trip to the Plains should definitely be in the works.

Although there is likely a long way to go in Ja’Kobi Lane’s recruitment, Ike Hilliard is putting in the work to get the WR to consider the Tigers and to get on campus.
