The Auburn football coaching staff has been ramping up their recruitment of the class of 2023 in the past few months as the young prospects begin to take visits to potential schools and narrow their lists down ahead of official decisions.

Over the past weekend, the Tigers hosted 4-star linebacker Lewis Carter, and following the visit, Carter is very impressed with Auburn football. Carter is listed as the #177 overall prospect and the #12 linebacker in the recruiting class of 2023 and is the #35 recruit out of the state of Florida.

The young linebacker has a great relationship with his would-be position coach on the Plains, Christian Robinson, whom Carter got to know while Robinson was still recruiting for the Florida Gators.

According to Auburn Live, running backs coach Cadillac Williams has been a player in Carter’s recruitment as well seeing as he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during his NFL career and Carter’s family is from Tampa. Following his family’s experience on the Plains, Carter had a simple answer when asked where the Tigers are on his list of potential schools:

"“High,” Carter said. “Very high.”"

Auburn football lost two key linebackers to the NFL after the 2021 season in Chandler Wooten and Zakoby McClain. With Owen Pappoe likely to follow in their footsteps next year, there will be plenty of opportunities for young guys to step up and earn playing time, which works in the Tigers’ favor when recruiting Lewis Carter.

The Florida LB is likely to make a final decision about where he will play college ball at the end of the summer, and Auburn Live reports that two schools that could challenge the Tigers are UCF, where Lewis will officially visit this week, and Oklahoma.

While no leader has emerged in Lewis’ recruitment, his official visit to the Plains gave Auburn football a strong shot to land the 4-star linebacker.
