Auburn football closing in on 4-star Nebraska EDGE commit

The Auburn football staff has been very aggressive when it comes to recruiting committed prospects in the recruiting class of 2023. Although recruits can give a verbal commitment whenever they want to, they also have the option to change their mind and flip to another school.

One potential flip that could happen sooner than later for the Tigers is that of 4-star edge Ashley Williams. The Louisiana native committed to Nebraska earlier this month, but the Tigers are not backing down and Williams plans to attend Big Cat Weekend at the end of the month.

Auburn football has a good chance to flip Williams for several reasons. He’s ranked as the #329 overall prospect and the #36 edge in the recruiting class of 2023, and is the #17 recruit out of the state of Louisiana. With Trovon Reed’s work to establish strong recruiting ties in the state of Louisiana, a big push from the Tigers could go a long way in securing the edge.

It’s also worth noting that the Cornhuskers currently hold 14 commits in their class of 2023, and 3 of those 14 are edge rushers. At Auburn, there is a real need for edge rushers and there are currently zero of them on the Tigers’ 2023 roster, which means there could be a real path to early playing time for Williams on the Plains.

The big push could happen next weekend at Big Cat. Last year, the Tigers earned the commitment of Damari Alston at the recruiting event, and they’re hoping for more good news at the end of this month. Ashley Williams could certainly change his mind and commit to Auburn, and there’s also the possibility that the Tigers lock in UGA commit Bo Hughley.

As the recruiting board continues to shift for Auburn football, edge rusher Ashley Williams is definitely a prospect to keep an eye on.
