While all eyes have been focused on the quarterback battle taking place on the Plains this summer, there is much anticipation for another of Auburn football’s position groups ahead of the 2022 season.

The Tigers lost several of their most productive receivers from last season, including Kobe Hudson who transferred to UCF and Demetris Robertson who declared for the NFL. After a season where the receivers were one of the weaker links on the Auburn offense, head coach Bryan Harsin has taken impactful steps to improve the pass catchers this season.

There are three incoming freshmen who will join ranks with the wide receivers, as well as two transfers from the portal in Dazalin Worsham and Koy Moore. New talent, along with a new position coach in Ike Hilliard, may set the position group up for success this fall.

However, one of the players earning high praise from the coaches is not new talent, and is entering into his second year with Auburn football. As a freshman, Tar’Varish Dawson hardly saw any game action and played in only two contests, but has been credited by the coaching staff for putting his head down and working hard during the offseason.

In fact, Dawson could be a breakout player to watch this fall, and Auburn offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau–Dawson’s former position coach–praised the WR as a force to be reckoned with on the offense, per Auburn Undercover:

"“He might be the most improved young player on the entire offense,” Kiesau said."

With a lot of turnover at the wide receiver position between the 2021 and 2022 seasons, many of the receivers in the room have the opportunity to get on the field and prove they have what it takes to start for the Tigers. Much like the Auburn football team as a whole, Dawson will be working to prove himself to the rest of the world.
